Liver Function Liver Function:

A liver panel is used to detect liver damage or disease. It includes seven tests that are run from a single blood sample. These tests are typically ordered when symptoms suspicious of a liver condition are noticed. These symptoms include: jaundice, dark urine, or light-colored bowel movements; nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea; loss of appetite; vomiting of blood; bloody or black bowel movements; swelling or pain in the belly; unusual weight change; or fatigue or loss of stamina. 

These tests might also be ordered when a person has been exposed to a hepatitis virus, has a family history of liver disease, had excessive alcohol intake, or is taking a drug that can cause liver damage. For general screening purposes, fasting is not required.

Anemia Profile (CBC, Retic, B12, Folate, Iron TIBC) Anemia Profile: (Includes CBC, Reticulocyte Count, B12, Folate, Iron, & TIBC)

This profile aids in the detection of anemia and its cause. CBC measures the use of hemoglobin (Hgb), hematocrit (Hct), and other red blood cell indices used to determine if anemia is indicated. 

The Reticulocyte Count (Retic) indicates the body’s ability to produce red blood cells (RBC). If the levels are low, the bone marrows fail to produce red blood cells; if the levels are normal, there is normal functioning; and if the levels are high, the results indicate anemia. 

B12, Folate, Iron, & TIBC determine the body’s ability to absorb and carry capacity of iron which is necessary to prevent anemia. For general screening purposes, fasting is not required.
